Water Rates & Upcoming Improvements

Update on Water Rates and Upcoming Improvements

We’ve received some questions regarding the recent increase in the town’s water rates, and we want to provide clarity on how and why this decision was made.

  • New rates introduced: May 27, 2025 (Open Meeting)

  • Public hearing held: June 23, 2025 (Open Meeting)

  • Rates adopted: June 23, 2025 (Open Meeting)

 Why the increase?
The adjustment in rates will fund major upgrades to our water system, including improvements to the water plant, a new water tower, and upgraded pump stations to address low pressure issues in certain areas of town.

Project Costs & Funding

  • Total project cost: $8.2 million

  • OCRA Grant: $750,000

  • Forgivable Loan: $2.8 million (as long as requirements are met)

  • Bond through SRF: $4.6 million (2% interest for 20 years)

The bond requires that rates be adjusted so the town can responsibly repay the loan.

⚖️ Keeping It Fair
We understand that rate increases can be concerning. Please know that the Town Council carefully considered this project with the best interest of the entire community in mind. The rates were recommended by our financial advisor after months of research and are in line with similar towns that have completed water projects.

Our current water plant, built around 1990, has only had minor updates since then. Previous rate changes occurred in 1999, 2015, 2021 (increase), and 2022 (decrease). These new adjustments ensure we can maintain and improve the infrastructure that serves us all.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we invest in the future of our community’s water system.
